What is the difference between PNG and LPG ?

LPG is Liquefied Petroleum Gas and PNG is Piped Natural Gas. LPG is supplied in liquid form just as the name suggests in cylinders whereas PNG is supplied through a pipeline. LPG is used as a fuel in heating appliances and vehicles, where as PNG is used for cooking (gas stoves) and heating water (gas geysers).

Is PNG (Piped Natural Gas) more advantageous as compared to LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) ?

Yes, Absolutely. PNG is more advantageous than LPG. There are several reasons as to why PNG is more advantageous than LPG.

Continuous and uninterrupted supply - PNG will be supplied to your house 24 hours a day, 7 days a week all through the year. You do not need to worry about storing PNG.
Easily available - Once you get a connection, you will get it supplied to your house continuously through a pipeline. PNG is available as and when you want it. When you switch your gas stove on or turn on your geyser, it will instantaneously be available.
Safety 24x7 - PNG is absolutely safe. The pressure of PNG is just 21 millibar. The pressure of PNG is 200 times lesser than gas supplied through cylinders. Natural gas is lighter than air, in case of any leakage; it will instantaneously mix with air and evaporate. But, LPG is heavier than air, and so in case of any leakage, it will settle down in the surroundings, leaving higher chances of fire from the cylinder. Hence, PNG is safer than LPG for your family.
Safety valves and Pressure Regulators are installed on pipelines at certain intervals for safety purposes. These pipelines have control and inspection devices to regulate the flow in the pipeline. The pipelines used for connections have minimal holes due to which there is negligible chance of leakage of gas.
Free from any Gas booking worries. Once you have your gas connection through PNG, you do not need to book you gas every month and wait for the cylinder. The gas is instantaneously available through pipelines 24 x 7.
It is highly trustworthy - PNG is supplied and metered just like electricity. Since it is measured just like electricity through meters, there is absolutely zero chance of any tampering or the customer receiving lower weight like LPG supplied in cylinders. The reading for this natural gas received through pipelines is registered only for its actual consumption taken place.
Clutter free and space free - The LPG cylinder occupies space in the kitchen. However, PNG is supplied through a half-inch pipeline which occupies almost close to negligible space when set up.
Pay for what you use - In case of PNG, you have to pay as per the consumption only. This is unlike LPG cylinder where you cannot use all the gas as some quantity is always left in the cylinder.

How can I avail the PNG Gas supply ?

Availing the gas supply is a simple process. The process includes
Registration Form
Agreement Document
Fixed Amount Payment for Facilities
Once you have completed the registration formalities by filling in the form and agreement document and pay the fixed amount to the Gas Company, the connection will be provided to you. A meter, a valve and a regulator will be installed in your house. Once this process is over, you will have uninterrupted supply of safe fuel gas available for your requirements.

Do I need to make any changes to my gas stove for using PNG gas ?

Yes, you have to make some very basic changes to your stove which shall be carried out by the authorized technician at the time of the connection.

What do I have to do with my LPG cylinder once I get the PNG connection ?

You will have to return the cylinder to your current gas supplying company after which you will get your deposit refund back from them.

How, when and where should my gas bill be paid ?

You will receive your gas bill at a fixed date. Once you receive the bill, you will have to deposit the bill amount before the due date at the place indicated therein by cash/Cheque only.

Is it possible to make any changes in my gas line, if required ?

Yes, changes required by you for your gas line are possible. Once you make an application for your required changes, the Company will then let you know the estimated cost that needs to be deposited for work to begin.

Can I get more than one point for PNG ?

Yes, you can get more than one point for your gas connection. For this you will have to make an application in writing and then deposit the amount estimated by the Company authorized personnel. Once this is done, we will provide you with a multiple points for your gas connection, subject to the safety criteria.

Can I get the connection, if I live in a rented house ?

Yes you can have a connection even if you live in a rented house. However, for this the landlord, the owner of the house will have to make an application or if you want to apply for it you will have to get a No Objection Certificate from the owner for the same.

What do I need to provide to get a PNG Gas connection ?

You have to submit a photocopy of any two of the following documents:

Most recent electricity bill

Most recent telephone bill (BSNL)

Passport

Ration Card

Most recent house tax bill

Certificate from the Society

In case I notice any leakage in the line, what should I do ?

In case of any leakage, you must inform the office of the Company without any further delay. An authorized technician will come and check the connection and pipeline and rectify any leakage or issues with the connection. You have to inform the local/city station emergency phone number for immediate assistance.
